Mozilla can't resolve host - any host

Running an older Win 32 version of Mozilla with cookies disabled, no e-mail, and JAVA disabled I have recently lost the ability to log on to any URL.

The error message is that it can't resolve the host - any host.

I hade uninstalled it.
REM-med out the Regedit files for Mozilla in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY _CURRENT_USER.

REM-med the Documents and Settings directory regerences to Mozilla and
Reinstalled it.

Damn if it still won’t load to any URLS.

This “feels” like malicious code that only affects the Win32 version – or - maybe just the vbrowser run at the time of the “event.”

I use Firefox and Thunderbird normally.

I’m running XP pro, I have an updated Norton Internet Security Pro (set to maximum security) and I have Spyware Dr., and the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Spyware Beta that works on XP Pro 64 bit.

I can’t find any malicious code.

I ran a “search” for any code created or modified on the day the “event” occurred finding none that didn’t make sense.

Any ideas?? I’d like to be able to surf in safety but this is weird.

Simple solutions are great but they make one feel really stupid.

My whole proplem was Norton Firewall setting was somehow set to "BLOCK ALL" for Mozilla.

I think I know how this hapened.
Wlile surfing using the older mozilla with a nugatory profile ( no name, no e-mail, no java, no cookies no ssl, etc. A site kept trying to load an active X component. I kept clicking Block when a pop up warning appeared. One of them must have been as to Mozilla.

    Anyway it's all better now.
